Respect is one of the five Barker values which we aim to display through every individual and relationship in our school community. Being respectful requires both the desire to respect, and the knowledge of how to best demonstrate this respect. What teenagers do and view online is a key factor influencing both their attitudes and knowledge around respect, relationships, and consent.

In 2023 Barker College is implementing a program of Raising Respect across the school which includes meaningful consent education. Supporting the delivery of this program is Dr Marshall Ballantine-Jones (https://digihelp.io/) who is an experienced researcher in the factors that contribute to respectful behaviours in teens, including social media and online pornographic material.

At the commencement of Term 2, during the week starting Monday 1 May, workshops will be run with Barker students in the Secondary School, and to complement this we are inviting teachers and parents to attend an evening session with Dr Ballantine-Jones for an honest discussion of the research and its implications.

This seminar is for teachers and parents, such that they can best understand and support those in their care.
