Educating for Global Stewardship in a Round Square School

In his New York Times best-seller, The Road to Character, David Brooks, states:
“We don’t become better because we acquire new information. We become better because we acquire better loves. We don’t become what we know. Education is a process of love formation. When you go to school, it should offer you new things to love.”
In other words, education forms our character. For good or ill. Across the world, this has never been more important than today. Once familiar on-ramps to good character have disappeared, while blind alleys have deluded us with promises of power and pragmatism.
How do we walk the character road in times such as this? Join Australian cultural analyst, Stephen McAlpine, as he introduces the journey that Barker is committed to: forming future national and global leaders whose vision and practice is grounded in the quality of character modern society desperately needs.

The night will also involve Mr Peter Gibson (Dean of Character Education) and Mr Phillip Heath AM (Head of Barker College) exploring how Barker continues to meet the needs of our students, and the world, through a global citizenship and global stewardship lens. One aspect will be information about new oportunities available to students with Barker now firmly established as a Round Square school allowing, some of which include student conferences, international exchanges exchanges, leadership deveopment, and character development.
