Re-capturing HOPE in the real world

Hope is in short supply in our culture at the moment. We all acknowledge that we need it, but what exactly is it and how can we nurture it?
Hope is the theme that has been adopted for Term 3 across Barker through the Chaplaincy program. It has been explored in classes, chapel services and assemblies, and was the foundation of questions discussed during the annual Faith week in Term 3 where students and staff are invited to investigate the deeper questions of life.
This seminar invites parents and the community to join in with exploring the question, "what is hope?”, and will present an analysis of some of the reasons that many (and especially young people) are struggling to have hope in this present moment. Attendees will be provided with a holistic and practical framework that can be used to develop hopefulness for ourselves and the young people in our lives.
Dr Leisa Aitken is a Clinical Psychologist who has been counselling and teaching for more than 30 years in workplaces, hospitals, churches and private practice. She completed a PhD on ThePsychology of Hope, inspired by the practical desire to help her patients be more hopeful. Drawing on insights from philosophy, theology, and psychology, as well as her own research into how Australians experience hope, Leisa has developed a practical model to help individuals and communities grow in hope.
