Humanitarian Education
Book Launch: Dr Neil Tucker - Educating for Humanity: The Holistic Principle

Barker warmly welcomes back its seventh Headmaster, Dr Neil Tucker, to launch his recently published book Educating for Humanity: The Holistic Principle. The book reviews the world of education. It offers a jigsaw (a mosaic) to argue what schools and early childhood centres are fundamentally for: the development of individual human beings to be their best selves, and to contribute well to the human story on planet Earth.
The book derives from 10 years of research. There are 800 references to scholars, pedagogies, international and national governments and organisations, schools and early childhood agencies. There are little stories to conclude each chapter. Although deliberately academic in scope–to provide Universities, practising teachers and parents with a unique resource –the book’s argument is readily accessible in the summaries and dot points.
The book offers a conceptual paradigm for the human world of education and for the future of the world itself: whole child, holistic learning, holistic education, whole world.
Dr Neil Tucker (BA BD Dip Ed Gr Dip Psych&CounsMA (Educ) MBA (Exec) Ph D FAIML) served as Barker's Headmaster from 1986-1995.
